I am (and I am very serious about this) totally in LOVE with this lady. She is truly beautiful both inside and out. Her voice is otherworldly. She says she “sings a bit” in the church choir but nobody really ever has heard her sing. Well, now we have. SUSAN, WE LOVE YOU!!

  6. teatime says:

She is AWESOME! I read a report that said she got a standing ovation at her parish church when she attended after her performance. I’m rooting for her!!!!!!!

Susan Boyle continues to claim headlines in the U.K. I saw one headline even before the BGT program was aired, so word was getting around from the evening of the performance itself. It turns out that she’s Catholic, the youngest of 8 or 9 children. She took care of her ailing mother until she died a couple of years ago and entered the competition partly b/c her mother encouraged her to enter it. She’s unemployed but a charity volunteer for her church. She lives in a council flat in a village/town that is, by several accounts, drab. She has been taunted (“bullied” the Brits say) by neighborhood children. There were learning difficulties when she was in school b/c of health problems when she was very young, hence even more bullying. If for nothing else, I admire her for being what seems to be a selfless and cheerful human being. I also admire the evident joy she has in sharing her gift. In some ways, the voice is just the added extra – but what an extra!

This is one of those things you get a half-a-dozen emails with the link saying “you really have to watch this” and you think “I’m too busy to watch one more thing on YouTube” … and then you finally break down and watch it and email it to everybody you know and say “you really have to watch this!” WONDERFUL!!

WOW, can this lady sing! An absolutely FANTASTIC performance! BRAVO, Susan!

What a wonderful clip – adding up the viewings of it and the several off–shoots, it looks like she has been viewed at least 15,000,000 times on YouTube alone as of 15/16 April…..her authenticity resonates with many people, it seems. I kept thinking as I watched, “Ooooh, another ‘Paul Potts’ moment!” It’s been two years since that excitement.
A commenter over at StandFirm had found an article which sums up eloquently this woman’s courage and what it lays bare in Western society:

Kudos also to Pat Dague at Transfigurations blog who I see linked to this article.

That really is quite something. Thanks for posting this. I wonder if that is a trained voice, perhaps the result of her choir work where so much to keep good singing alive takes place?

I got shushed at the library for saying “yes!” and clapping my hands.
One box of tissues at least. What a voice. The song was made for her. Bravo! It’s good to know that just plain people can do things like this.

For the beauty of the earth…brother, sister, parent, child..(and this fine soul and true lady):
“Lord of all to Thee we raise, this our grateful hymn of praise”.
