From the Morning Scripture Readings

Therefore take good heed to yourselves. Since you saw no form on the day that the LORD spoke to you at Horeb out of the midst of the fire….

Take heed to yourselves, lest you forget the covenant of the LORD your God, which he made with you, and make a graven image in the form of anything which the LORD your God has forbidden you.

For the LORD your God is a devouring fire, a jealous God.

But what did the people of Israel do, time and time again/what do we do time and time again.

But fortunately God does not turn his back on us and at the end of the chapter there is the good news:

29 But if from there you seek the LORD your God, you will find him if you look for him with all your heart and with all your soul. 30 When you are in distress and all these things have happened to you, then in later days you will return to the LORD your God and obey him. 31 For the LORD your God is a merciful God; he will not abandon or destroy you or forget the covenant with your forefathers, which he confirmed to them by oath.

If this is to be a regular entry, it is a good idea. Unfortunately it is not my habit to go the the BCP as I start my day. I do go “start” my computer and sift through this Blog. I suggest making it a regular feature.

If that don’t make me put the credit card away nothing will! Thank you Kendall. Maybe we could have a lectionary selection every morning?

Hi Doug, Kendall makes it a pretty regular feature, but by no means everyday.

For those of you who tend to start your day at the computer, and would find an online version of the lectionary helpful, here are a few resources:

ESV (English Standard Version) of the Bible has a daily e-mail or RSS feed with the Morning & Evening prayer readings from the 1979 BCP Lectionary. Go here:
    http://www.gnpcb.org/esv/devotions/bcp/

There is also the quite well-known site from Mission St. Clare which you can use to pray the office (i.e. it has collects etc., beyond just the daily office Scripture readings.) That link is here:
    http://www.missionstclare.com/english/index.html

The 1928 BCP lectionary online is here:
