The Episcopal Church does not lack urgent energy – it just doesn’t have any that unites. It accommodates the several lesser “urgencies” of a couple of groups, who may or may not be in denial about the harm they are doing to the rest of the body. As I’ve written elsewhere, it is a “one generation strategy,” kind of like rent controlled apartments: Nobody cares what happens next, as long as they get theirs now.
I also see an urgency in the revisionists. For three years, Ms Schori was going around talking about “vibrancy” and “all is well.” Now, she is acknowledging there might be a problem but nothing really that grave, “go back to sleep”.
A backlash is coming. The revisionists are aware of this. The pew potatoes are realizing that national church politics do matter locally. The revisionists are working urgently to get as many facts on the ground before this backlash really finds a voice.
Oops. Just saw that Professor Seitz said pretty much the same thing in the original thread.
TEC members self centered? Are they “me” oriented? Duh? The baby boomers now control TEC (and the nation). What else would you expect? Statmann
