Add an entire school day to the chopping block. State lawmakers want tomove financially struggling schools to four day weeks. They say it willsave money, and it won’t affect classroom time.
Thesuperintendent of one local school district believes the plan couldwork. CBS 2’s Dorothy Tucker paid them a visit.
“I think it’ssomething we should take a look at,” said Dr. Kamala Buckner,Superintendent of Thornton Township High Schools District 205.
What a boon for the daycare industry!!! That’s at least 20% growth in one swell foop. The average annual cost for daycare in Illinois (2007) was $10,198.00. So that would mean an extra $2,000 out of the pockets of these folks so that they can pay strangers to watch their kids while they work to pay for the retirements and healthcare of the aging Boomers as well as healthcare insurance for illegal immigrants under the new Health Care laws.
This new economy of the Obama nation is a wonder to behold.
Hope and change.
Mercy! This is supposed to be new and innovative? Cripple Creek/ Victor schools have been on a four day week for many years; a common practice in small mountain towns of Colorado. They are in class one extra hour a day. Maybe it isn’t a “great” system, but it works: the teachers like it, the parents like it, the kids like it, and it saves money on heating the buildings and running the busses. If I were still teaching, I would want a four day week too!

Soon their schools will be as good as California’s…

In all due respect, Chicago isn’t Cripple Creek. The last thing we need to do, is give the huge number of poor, urban Chicago kids, another whole day with nothing on their agenda.
