Lord God of hosts, who didst clothe thy servant Martin the soldier with the spirit of sacrifice, and didst set him as a bishop in thy Church to be a defender of the catholic faith: Give us grace to follow in his holy steps, that at the last we may be found clothed with righteousness in the dwellings of peace; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.
I look forward to starting the day with T19’s prayers and bible readings. It is very helpful. Thank you Canon Harmon.
Martinmas always reminds me of the necessary tension between war and peace in the Christian’s life: the war we must fight with evil, and the peace of God “that passeth all understanding,” which alone gives the victory. The combination of Veterans Day and St. Martin’s Day is poignant and instructive. It is one time when the coincidence of the Liturgical and Secular calendars yields rich fruit for contemplation and discipleship.
