Not an entirely accurate headline – somewhat economical with the verité. Blackfriars Hall has never been part of the Anglican Church or the Oxford Movement, although I suppose one could say that it is, indeed, within the geographical boundaries of the City of Oxford.
It has been since its foundation [or refoundation according to your point of view] in 1921, a Roman Catholic establishment run by the Dominicans who have a small [20 brother] priory. It has also been a permanent private hall of Oxford University taking a few students; a similar hall operated by the Franciscans, Greyfriars, closed not so long ago, having given up the struggle.
Now if the headline had referred to Keble College Chapel, there might have been some truth to the alleged link with the Oxford Movement. But of course, if Catholics are now holding evensong then that must be something to be encouraged. I hope they enjoy it after the relative colorlessness of choral vespers.
OK, let’s see if I have this right. We have Anglicans who became Catholics who are having an Evensong (Anglican)? Heh.
Yeah, I think they call it Vespers.
