Not an entirely accurate press report. Those concerned are part of the tiny Church of Ireland (Traditional Rite), which was founded by one Church of Ireland priest in the early 90’s after the ordination of women, and which belongs to the Traditional Anglican Communion (TAC). The 3 congregations were never “Church of Ireland parishes” but were newly founded, in new premises. They are not members of a “traditional rite within the Church of Ireland”, nor does TAC belong “to the worldwide 78 million Anglican Communion”. And there will be no “shock to the Church of Ireland” since the congregations have no connection to it at all. However, in the (highly unlikely) event of Rome granting TAC’s request without re-ordinations, then Apostolicae Curiae goes out the window!
