Washington Islamic Center barbecue eases difficult week following terror arrests

Confronting stereotypes is nothing new to Muslims at the Islamic Center of Eastside. It’s the very reason they have an open house every few months ”” to invite in neighbors and “demystify” themselves.

Saturday’s scheduled open house came just two days after two Muslim men were arrested in Seattle and accused of planning a terrorist attack on a Seattle military building. Disheartened but expecting questions, presenters at the Islamic Center in Bellevue worked up an extra PowerPoint slide to address terrorism.

Maybe if American Islamic leaders and groups would publicly take the lead condemning their radical, violent brethren, there wouldn’t be the “erroneous sterotypes” they lament about.
When elements in the Catholic immigrant community got involved with Mafia violence or IRA violence many groups and people in the Catholic community took a PUBLIC lead in the struggle against those two groups. Where are the Moslem leaders taking on a similar role?????

I’ve glanced at this headline a couple of times today and do a double take every time I see it. I have this vision of bearded men in overalls. And where I come from barbeque is pulled pork; which is why I do a doulbe take. I wonder what they serve at an Islamic barbeque?
