I have loved being outdoors this summer — just recently I was out hiding for a dog for SAR work in the evening under some trees, and over my left shoulder was the sound of a bobwhite and over my right shoulder was a mourning dove.
They would call out by turns — sheer heaven.
Right now my door is open and I’m listening to the sounds of the cicadas wafting through the porch and into the living room.
I am also thankful for a sudden and sharp return of my imagination and creativity. I hadn’t noticed a big deficit, but suddenly the world is alive with ideas and mystery — I love the feeling and it has gone on now for quite some time.
I am also very thankful for my work. It is exciting and interesting and uses my talents. I’m just good at it and I enjoy seeing goals achieved for my clients.
Our two young boys (1 and 3) are developing well, are happy, and the oldest is showing a genuine interest in God.
We’ve gotten through another year of winter illnesses and are beginning to move out of survival mode – work on the thesis is moving forward well again, and we’re going to the gym again for the first time since 1 y.o. was born.
Studying my thesis is an immense privilege and giving me the chance to sit with a lot of very edifying patristic writings.
For life, for family, for the stunning beauty of the cardinals in the yard and the magnificent morning colors of the morning glories in the flower pots.
For my health, my home, and my family and their good health. For evenings at home on the farm with my wife and Saturdays having lunch together at new and interesting places and old favorites. For my son’s progress in the USAF air traffic controller school and my daughter’s work ethic at her summer job, and their remaining connected to the church. For an Anglican church in my community and a wonderful priest who shares my love for the Anglican Way.
For much needed rain! For beautiful flowers to give to people who need a bit of beauty in their lives. For the students in the Tuesday afternoon Bible Class who faithfully share what they have; they have supplied Bibles for mission work on Fiji and I’ve just sent their offering to my friend in Uganda to purchase much needed school supplies for a student in the secondary school where she teaches. Thankful for the desiire and the means to share.

As I undergo treatment for breast cancer I am grateful for:
The skill and dedication of my medical team who are fighting for me every step of the way.
The loving care of a faithfilled and loving husband who is earning stars in his crown at an amazing rate.
A church community that stretches throughout the country and to the Bahamas and even Afghanistan and Europe that is praying and encouraging me at every turn. Some TEC, some Anglican, all dedicated and loving in their own special way.
The new friends God has put in my life at just the right time. Funny how that happens.
For the healing that is taking place in my body and my soul as I am forced to submit to others and accept love and care.
And a loving God that shows up at every turn, if I will just open my eyes and heart to His presence.
I have much to be grateful for today, and every day.
For air conditioning and early mornings with coffee in the garden
For the power of prayer
For marvelous and deep worship services which keep us drawn so close to God
For my husband and his good health
For our country home and all of our animals
For family and friends
For life in all of its meaning to us
I’m thankful that when we catch ourselves dwelling on the past or thinking about the future, God meets us in the moment.
And we remember:
I AM.
All in all.
Whenever I begin thanking God for all he has given me (family, friends, material things), I always find myself saying, “and especially for the gift of our Lord Jesus Christ, your son our Lord, and for his sacrifice for us on the cross and his atonement for our sins.” Somehow, my prayers of thanksgiving always begin or end there.

For the cross of The Lord Jesus Christ.
For my 90 year-old mother, for my loving family, and for my faith in God.
For my son being in remission for 2 years…everything else pales in comparison. I thank God for it daily

For a positive scan result, actually showing some shinkage.

For the adoption of our third child who came home with my wife on Friday from China. (I won’t be retiring…ever.)
