(LA Times) In California, Support slips for Jerry Brown's tax hike

Support for Gov. Jerry Brown’s plan for billions of dollars in tax hikes on the November ballot is slipping amid public anxiety about how politicians spend money, but voters still favor the proposal, according to a new USC Dornsife/Los Angeles Times poll.

The findings suggest that voters are leery of sending more cash to Sacramento in the wake of a financial scandal at the parks department, spiraling costs for a multibillion-dollar high-speed rail project to connect Northern and Southern California and ill-timed legislative pay raises.

A high speed rail boondoggle which we clearly don’t need or want and which would cost us zillions of bucks for no benefit to us except for denizens of big cities, financial finagling in Sacramento, and rebellious taxpayers who’re already stretched to the limit all add up to one thing: Forget it, Jerry!

But is that the message he will get? So goes CA so goes the nation. The prospects of serious, serious consequences for continued fiscal irresponsibility are only hidden from those who hide their eyes, yet in neither CA or the nation do you see a huge outcry

I agree! The main opposition is coming from us out in the hinterlands here in California; the small towns and out-of-the way places off the beaten track, where Jerry Brown is not particularly well-liked and where he very seldom visits. Instead, if he’s going to do any politicking for his tax increase, he does it in Los Angeles, San Jose, San Francisco, Oakland, and Sacramento. That’s where his power base is. Never mind us out here in the backwater; he thinks we’re a flock of sheep who’ll go along to get along, but unfortunately for him, it’s not working that way.
