In an interview before the bishop’s address Saturday, the Rev. Jim Lewis, who serves as canon to Lawrence, said that the diocese is solely focused on the future, even in light of the most recent court filing by Bishop Charles vonRosenberg of TEC in South Carolina in which he has also claimed rights to serve as the head of the diocese as a national Episcopal-affiliated organization.
“We have already turned the page, that’s all history,” Lewis said. “We’re moving ahead.”
[blockquote] “We do so now from outside the official structures of the Anglican Communion and yet spiritually supported and encouraged by the vast majority of provinces and people of the Anglican Communion. While this is not a state we desire to remain in indefinitely, it is where God has brought us for the moment.†[/blockquote]
That well sums up the changing scene in the Anglican Communion – so many Anglicans these days find Dio South Carolina’s orthodoxy far more important than a mere list of provinces held in a drawer somewhere at the Anglican Communion Office.
I pray and trust that Dio SC as it moves forward will continue to have a real heart for the gospel, for spreading the good news of the kingdom, and making many disciples.
