Brief Kendall Update

I am pleased to say that I returned home last evening. I am finding the whole process a challenge, especially the physical therapy and pain management. I sincerely appreciate the support and prayers–KSH.

Physical therapy is key to a more rapid and more complete recovery. Yes, it hurts! Hang in there. In a few weeks you’ll be really glad you did.

I recently had very minor surgery on a toe, putting me on crutches for a couple of days. I had worked hard prior to this on getting quads, abdominals, and arms stronger, because when I had a meniscus repair on my knee two years ago I had trouble handling myself on crutches. Much better this time. I know you’ve worked at getting your muscles in shape in recent years and you must be seeing now that it helps.

Prayers ascending for the Lord to help you through the pain management issues.

They don’t call PT pain and torture without cause, but it is worth it. And it increases both one’s sympathy for others similarly situated and one’s fund of organ recitals. All best wishes and prayers.

I’m taking PT for some muscle problems right now and you have my prayers and sympathy. It’s hard. Also, on my first surgery I tried to be Iron Man and not take pain meds. It’s harder to heal when you are hurting, as I learned.

Best wishes.

Dear God, I pray that if Kendall is having issues with pain management, you will come to him and touch him with Your healing hand. And, that you will also inspire him to call his doctor (and/or the office nurse) to let them know that he is in pain. In that way, dear God, Your healing touch can also come to him in the form of improved pharmacotherapy (and perhaps a check to be sure all is well at the operative site). In Christ’s Name, Amen.

I second that. PT was a huge help when Mom had her knee replaced and to me when I was having mobility issues.

Mom said recently that one thing that helped her gut it out in PT was having a very clear, specific goal of what she hoped to get out of the process. She and Dad were planning a trip to Greece, and she was determined to be able to climb hills and stairs as needed to take in the sights. And, sure enough, she did!

May God bless you and keep you.

7. QohelethDC says:

Strengthen your servant Kendall, O God, to do what he has to do
and bear what he has to bear; that, accepting your healing
gifts through the skill of surgeons and nurses and physical therapists,
he may be restored to usefulness in your world with a thankful heart;
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. (BCP, slightly adapted)

Thank you Lord for what the medical people have been able to offer Kendall. Now may he be able to learn what he too can offer his own body’s restoration – speedily! Amen.
