Everett L. “Terry” Fullam, who served as rector of St. Paul’s, Darien, Conn., famous as tall steeple parish in the mainline Protestant renewal movement, died today. He was 82.
News of his passing came as a result of Bishop Gregory Brewer, Episcopal Diocese of Central Florida, who tweeted this afternoon, “Just heard that Terry Fullam passed away. A generation ago he was a hero.”
It was attending a Terry Fulham led “renewal weekend” in 1982 in Charlottesville VA with fellow vestry members and my then rector that I first experienced personal renewal in the Holy Spirit. Terry was so gentle and matter-of-fact and biblically convincing that I surrendered myself in willing anticipation convinced something would happen. And it did! I sat under his teaching another half dozen times. I thank God for him. May He Rest in Peace and Rise in Glory
The Rev Canon David Wilson
I distinctly recall listening to a biblical teaching by Fr. Fulham that opened my eyes to the deeper beauty and wisdom of the Holy Scriptures. His gracious and enthusiastic way of opening the Word helped me to see Holy Baptism in a whole new light. I was befriended in my young walk with Christ by those whom Terry had led to The Lord and discipled along the way. May he rest in peace and rise in glory with our Lord Jesus Christ.
I remember him conducting a mission at St. David’s, Austin, in the mid-70s, which was a delight. Light eternal!
