Same-sex blessings at Holy Trinity Toronto

From the Toronto Star:

Toronto’s historic Church of the Holy Trinity says it will defy any attempt by the Anglican Church of Canada to stop the blessing of same sex unions, and may even start performing the wedding ceremonies themselves.

In a resolution released late Sunday, members of the activist downtown church voted to “continue to exercise its conscience and bless same-sex unions and marry same-sex couples.”

Rev. Jim Ferry, fired by the Anglican Church 15 years ago for being gay but since given limited duties at Holy Trinity, says the parish has long supported same sex blessings, and predicted it will soon take the next step of performing a gay marriage ceremony.

“I think we’re going to be consistent and move in that direction,” Ferry told the Star. “Our parish is not about to go backwards.”

    Actually, Jim Ferry wasn’t fired for being Gay. His orientation wasn’t the issue. He was fired for living openly in a same-sex relationship which is somewhat ironic given that the bishop who canned him has voiced his support for the local option resolutions at General Synod.

    Sounds like a bunch of congregationalists to me. Either way, it was good that Ferry was fired, and bad that his “bishop” wasn’t!

  3. Statmann says:

    A gay priest with the name Ferry. I thought someone may have made this one up.

    Jesus Christ said:
    first commandment…Love thy God with all thy heart, all thy soul and all thy strength, second is like unto first, love thy neighbor as thyself,m on these two laws hang all the laws and prophecies;
    love the sinner but not the sin,
    so first of all, i do not see any of these “progressive”
    group have presented this, unless they have a different
    understanding of what is love and what is sex,
    and to love thy neighbor is to have sex with thy neighbor
    and to love onself, is to have sex with oneself, which is
    physically impossible, regardless be the person is female or male,
    and to love thy God … meant to have sex with God ???
    am i confused or these “progressive” folks are???
    and if we are to put our sexuality before the first commandment Jesus stated: Love thy God with all thye heart and all thy mind and all thy strength… does that not mean our sexuality comes before God ???

    so all of you “progressive christians ” please, educate yourself first and then educate an idiot like me ;
    next i have this to share with the anglican, in regards to this same sex marriage/practicing homosexual priest(s), why are you guys “tolerating” this or being
    “indecisive” ove these two issues despite the numerous
    christians leaving the anglican, or is it that because of the fear of what the political side effects…again
    forgetting the first commandment: love thy God with all thy heart, all thy soul and all thy strength ??? and forsaking His flock ???
