Carbon Offset Plan Allows Businesses to Trade Environmental 'Credit'

SPENCER MICHELS: Yahoo has bought carbon credits by supporting a wind farm in India and a hydroelectric dam in Brazil.

CHRISTINA PAGE: It’s equivalent to taking 35,000 cars off the road or turning off the Vegas strip for two months.

SPENCER MICHELS: The demand for offsets has led to a growing, unregulated industry of for-profits and nonprofits selling carbon credits. Live Neutral, a nonprofit, sells carbon offsets to clients like Transgroup, a company that works with air, truck and rail companies, big CO-2 emitters.

Live Neutral finds projects to offset those emissions, according to founder Jason Smith.

JASON SMITH, Founder, Live Neutral: We can actually start reducing emissions on an industrial scale today if we can built the fiscal support to make those projects possible. You still have a carbon footprint, but it’s something you can do today to take responsibility for that footprint.

SPENCER MICHELS: Transgroup says that it’s good business and good public relations to buy carbon credits for its customers.

There is currently a plan underway by the founder of The Weather Channel, John Coleman, to advocate suing those selling Carbon Offsets for fraud.

    He’s quoted as saying:
[blockquote]Coleman also told the audience his strategy for exposing what he called “the fraud of global warming.” He advocated suing those who sell carbon credits, which would force global warming alarmists to give a more honest account of the policies they propose.
“(I) have a feeling this is the opening,” Coleman said. “If the lawyers will take the case – sue the people who sell carbon credits. That includes Al Gore. That lawsuit would get so much publicity, so much media attention. And as the experts went to the witness stand and testified, I feel like that could become the vehicle to finally put some light on the fraud of global warming.”[/blockquote]

Carbon Offsets — that’s like me paying YOU to exercise for me, then wondering WHY I’m not losing weight or getting in better shape.

I am happy to have someone pay me not to buy an SUV or install central air conditioning in my house. That way we all benefit!

Selling carbon offsets from our solar electrification efforts in Africa by eliminating the carbon from kerosene otherwise used is an important way we raise funds

The last comment was cut off. Solar Light for Africa is struggling to raise funds to continue its mission. And there continues to be many requests from Dioceses throughout equatorial Africa, but TEC and the break-away churches are more preoccupied with their own lawsuits. Let us not advocate for more lawsuits against those that are trying to do the Lord’s work.
