I was a big Tim Russert fan. I loved his style and his toughness with a wide range of political subjects, but at the risk of sounding a little insensitive this lingering national mourning seems a little out of proportion. It is my belief that even Russert would have put the brakes on the repititive remembrances on NBC that have continued longer than those for JFK in the 1960s.
Journalists, and I’m a retired one, often elevate themselves and their colleagues to the Pope and President level and frankly, we’re not.
So it was very appropriate to mark the passing of a good journalist and well known celebrity, but could there be just a little proportion in the national media?
Like everyone I feel badly for his wife and son and pray that they will find comfort in all the attention and love directed at Russert.
