When Dr. Robert Stuart first arrived at the Medical University of South Carolina from Johns Hopkins in 1985, the Hollings Cancer Center wasn\u2019t even a far-flung dream. <\/p>\n

That\u2019s because there was no oncology department to speak of at MUSC back then. There weren\u2019t even board-certified oncologists on the full-time faculty. Stuart was the first one the hospital ever hired.<\/p>\n

MUSC, he acknowledged, was late to the game. <\/p>\n

\u201cRoper had probably four or five (oncologists),\u201d Stuart said. \u201cThat aspect of cancer medicine here (at MUSC) was almost non-existent.\u201d<\/p>\n
