Lord Boateng, Chair of the Archbishops\u2019 Commission on Racial Justice, told General Synod members that it was \u2018chilling\u2019, \u2018wounding\u2019 and a \u2018scandal\u2019 that there had been no action on a \u2018long list\u2019 of recommendations over the years to tackle racial injustice.<\/p>\n
There is \u2018no shortage of policy\u2019 or good intentions in the Church of England, he said, but there is a \u2018shortage of delivery\u2019. Racism is a \u2018gaping wound in the body of Christ,\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n
Paying tribute to the work of the Church of England\u2019s Anti-Racism Taskforce, he said its report From Lament to Action, published last year, revealed a \u2018chilling\u2019 failure by the Church to implement recommendations made over the years on racial justice.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe most chilling thing about this report, the most concerning thing about this report, are the appendices, the long lists of previous recommendations which have not been implemented, promises made that have not been fulfilled. It is chilling, it is wounding, it is a scandal, and it has to be addressed,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
