{"id":109664,"date":"2022-02-11T08:00:08","date_gmt":"2022-02-11T13:00:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/kendallharmon.net\/?p=109664"},"modified":"2022-02-11T07:24:51","modified_gmt":"2022-02-11T12:24:51","slug":"church-times-fewer-dioceses-specialist-bishops-archbishops-confidential-paper-revealed-in-detail","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kendallharmon.net\/?p=109664","title":{"rendered":"(Church Times) Fewer dioceses, specialist bishops: Archbishops\u2019 confidential paper revealed in detail"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A reduction in the number of dioceses, and reforms to the shape of episcopal ministry, are part of the \u201csignificant change\u201d to which \u201cGod is calling\u201d the Church of England, a paper produced by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.churchtimes.co.uk\/topics\/archbishop-of-canterbury\">Archbishops of Canterbury<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.churchtimes.co.uk\/topics\/archbishop-of-york\">York <\/a>and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.churchtimes.co.uk\/topics\/bishop-of-london\">Bishop of London<\/a> suggests.<\/p>\n<p>In the confidential paper, presented to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.churchtimes.co.uk\/topics\/college-of-bishops\">College of Bishops<\/a> in September and seen by the <em>Church Times<\/em> this week, the three authors write of their conviction that \u201cGod is calling us to embrace significant change.\u201d This will entail being prepared to \u201csurrender much that we have held dear, but which we now believe may well now be hindering our mission. . .<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe believe that there will need to be significant changes to how dioceses are structured, the number and nature of them as well as serious consideration being given to the behaviours and ways of working of bishops as we move beyond the events of 2020 and 2021.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Entitled <em>A consultation document: Bishops and their ministry fit for a new context<\/em>, the paper draws on a \u201clistening exercise\u201d conducted by a task group commissioned by the Archbishops and the Bishop of London.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.churchtimes.co.uk\/articles\/2022\/11-february\/news\/uk\/fewer-dioceses-specialist-bishops-archbishops-confidential-paper-revealed-in-detail\">Read it all<\/a> (registration).<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">In the confidential paper, presented to the College of Bishops in September and seen by the Church Times this week, the three authors write of their conviction that \u201cGod is calling us to embrace significant change\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/Vl3NKET17B\">https:\/\/t.co\/Vl3NKET17B<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash;
