These new upstarting spirits say, \u2018Christ never descended into hell, neither in body nor soul.\u2019\u201d[22] Against such cavils, Latimer affirms that Christ did descend to hell, locally\u2014that is, his soul truly and physically descended to the place (locus), hell, to redeem and liberate the righteous who died on earth before his death on the cross.
