Suddenly after long silence
\nhe has become voluble.
\nHe addresses me from a myriad
\ndirections with fluency
\nof water, the articulateness
\nof green leaves: and in the genes,
\ntoo, the components
\nof my existence. The rock,
\nso long speechless, is the library
\nof his poetry. He sings to me
\nin the chain-saw, writes
\nwith the surgeon\u2019s hand
\non the skin\u2019s parchment messages
\nof healing. The weather
\nis his mind\u2019s turbine
\ndriving the earth\u2019s bulk round
\nand around on its remedial
\njourney. I have no need
\nto despair; as at
\nsome second Pentecost
\nof a Gentile, I listen to the things
\nround me: weeds, stones, instruments,
\nthe machine itself, all
\nspeaking to me in the vernacular
\nof the purposes of one who is.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
