{"id":114469,"date":"2022-08-04T09:26:18","date_gmt":"2022-08-04T13:26:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/kendallharmon.net\/?p=114469"},"modified":"2022-08-04T17:40:19","modified_gmt":"2022-08-04T21:40:19","slug":"ct-with-an-eye-to-mission-and-money-more-evangelical-universities-go-green","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kendallharmon.net\/?p=114469","title":{"rendered":"(CT) With an Eye to Mission and Money, More Evangelical Universities Go Green"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"text\">There are two reasons to put solar panels on the roofs of Calvin University.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text\">One, renewable energy can provide power for the private Christian campus in Grand Rapids, Michigan, without adding to the atmospheric concentrations of carbon dioxide, methane, chlorofluorocarbons, and nitrous oxide that are\u00a0<a class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ipcc.ch\/report\/ar6\/wg1\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">driving climate change<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text\">Two, it will save the school some money.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text\">At Calvin, the environmental reason is primary. The budgetary help is a bonus.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text\">\u201cI think taking care of the planet is a prerequisite to being a Christian,\u201d Tim Fennema, vice president for administration and finance, told CT. \u201cAnd as a Christian university, it\u2019s something we want to do.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"text\">Calvin is on a mission to be carbon neutral by 2057.
