Wine and new wine
\n take away the understanding.
\nMy people inquire of a thing of wood,
\n and their staff gives them oracles.
\nFor a spirit of harlotry has led them astray,
\n and they have left their God to play the harlot.
\nThey sacrifice on the tops of the mountains,
\n and make offerings upon the hills,
\nunder oak, poplar, and terebinth,
\n because their shade is good.<\/p>\n
Therefore your daughters play the harlot,
\n and your brides commit adultery.
\nI will not punish your daughters when they play the harlot,
\n nor your brides when they commit adultery;
\nfor the men themselves go aside with harlots,
\n and sacrifice with cult prostitutes,
\nand a people without understanding shall come to ruin.<\/p>\n
Though you play the harlot, O Israel,
\n let not Judah become guilty.
\nEnter not into Gilgal,
\n nor go up to Beth-a\u2032ven,
\n and swear not, \u201cAs the Lord lives.\u201d
\nLike a stubborn heifer,
\n Israel is stubborn;
\ncan the Lord now feed them
\n like a lamb in a broad pasture?<\/p>\n
E\u2032phraim is joined to idols,
\n let him alone.
\nA band of drunkards, they give themselves to harlotry;
\n they love shame more than their glory.
\nA wind has wrapped them in its wings,
\n and they shall be ashamed because of their altars.<\/p>\n
