Lewis never wrote those words, but he did admire the person who originally wrote them\u2014or at least something very similar. George MacDonald penned a close variation of this saying in Annals of a Quiet Neighbourhood <\/em>(1867). In the 28th chapter, we find a comment about \u201cthe great mistake of teaching children that they have souls.\u201d It goes on to say that \u201cthey ought to be taught that they have bodies, and that their bodies die; while they themselves live on.\u201d Years later, in 1892, an article appeared in The British Friend<\/em> where MacDonald is quoted as saying, \u201cNever tell a child \u2026 you have a soul. Teach him, you are a soul; you have a body.\u201d<\/p>\n The most misquoted line from Lewis. These are certainly great words, but they aren\u2019t quite what Lewis actually wrote. They are close though. Not including punctuation, there are eight differences between this and Lewis\u2019s original. The correct version comes from an essay entitled \u201cIs Theology Poetry?\u201d found in The Weight of Glory<\/em>.
