The United States has expanded its list of the world\u2019s worst violators of religious freedom.<\/p>\n
Two new nations\u2014Cuba and Nicaragua\u2014were added on Friday to the State Department\u2019s list of Countries of Particular Concern (CPC). Two others\u2014Vietnam and the Central African Republic (CAR)\u2014were added to its Special Watch List (SWL). And one new organization was added to its list of Entities of Particular Concern (EPC): Russia\u2019s mercenary Wagner group, due to its cited offenses in CAR.<\/p>\n
\u201cAround the world, governments and non-state actors harass, threaten, jail, and even kill individuals on account of their beliefs,\u201d stated Antony Blinken, US Secretary of State. \u201cThe United States will not stand by in the face of these abuses.\u201d<\/p>\n
His own watchdog, however, is unconvinced.<\/p>\n
The US Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) tweeted its \u201coutrage\u201d over the non-inclusion of Nigeria and India. It is \u201cinexplicable,\u201d the independent bipartisan organization continued, given the State Department\u2019s own reporting.<\/p>\n
