Declare this in the house of Jacob,
\nproclaim it in Judah:
\n\u201cHear this, O foolish and senseless people,
\nwho have eyes, but see not,
\nwho have ears, but hear not.
\nDo you not fear me? says the Lord;
\nDo you not tremble before me?
\nI placed the sand as the bound for the sea,
\na perpetual barrier which it cannot pass;
\nthough the waves toss, they cannot prevail,
\nthough they roar, they cannot pass over it.
\nBut this people has a stubborn and rebellious heart;
\nthey have turned aside and gone away.
\nThey do not say in their hearts,
\n\u201d\u02dcLet us fear the Lord our God,
\nwho gives the rain in its season,
\nthe autumn rain and the spring rain,
\nand keeps for us
\nthe weeks appointed for the harvest.\u2019
\nYour iniquities have turned these away,
\nand your sins have kept good from you.
\nFor wicked men are found among my people;
\nthey lurk like fowlers lying in wait.
\nThey set a trap;
\nthey catch men.
\nLike a basket full of birds,
\ntheir houses are full of treachery;
\ntherefore they have become great and rich,
\nthey have grown fat and sleek.
\nThey know no bounds in deeds of wickedness;
\nthey judge not with justice
\nthe cause of the fatherless, to make it prosper,
\nand they do not defend the rights of the needy.
\nShall I not punish them for these things?
\nsays the Lord,
\nand shall I not avenge myself
\non a nation such as this?\u201d<\/p>\n
An appalling and horrible thing
\nhas happened in the land:
\nthe prophets prophesy falsely,
\nand the priests rule at their direction;
\nmy people love to have it so,
\nbut what will you do when the end comes?<\/p>\n
