Then Jonah prayed to the Lord his God from the belly of the fish, saying,<\/p>\n

\u201cI called to the Lord, out of my distress,
\nand he answered me;
\nout of the belly of Sheol I cried,
\nand thou didst hear my voice.
\nFor thou didst cast me into the deep,
\ninto the heart of the seas,
\nand the flood was round about me;
\nall thy waves and thy billows
\npassed over me.
\nThen I said, \u2018I am cast out
\nfrom thy presence;
\nhow shall I again look
\nupon thy holy temple?\u2019
\nThe waters closed in over me,
\nthe deep was round about me;
\nweeds were wrapped about my head
\nat the roots of the mountains.
\nI went down to the land
\nwhose bars closed upon me for ever;
\nyet thou didst bring up my life from the Pit,
\nO Lord my God.
\nWhen my soul fainted within me,
\nI remembered the Lord;
\nand my prayer came to thee,
\ninto thy holy temple.
\nThose who pay regard to vain idols
\nforsake their true loyalty.
\nBut I with the voice of thanksgiving
\nwill sacrifice to thee;
\nwhat I have vowed I will pay.
\nDeliverance belongs to the Lord!\u201d<\/p>\n
