Tolkien\u2019s world to conjure this scene. Real trees on our Earth can communicate and warn each other of danger \u2014 and a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/s41467-023-41589-9\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">new study<\/a> explains how.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"article-body\" data-qa=\"article-body\">\n<p class=\"wpds-c-cYdRxM wpds-c-cYdRxM-iPJLV-css overrideStyles font-copy\" dir=\"null\" data-testid=\"drop-cap-letter\" data-el=\"text\">The study found injured plants emit certain chemical compounds, which can infiltrate a healthy plant\u2019s inner tissues and activate defenses from within its cells.
