The chip is intended to allow people to use phones or computers simply by\u00a0<em>thinking<\/em>\u00a0about what they want to do on the devices.<\/p>\n<p>In a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pewresearch.org\/internet\/2022\/03\/17\/public-cautious-about-enhancing-cognitive-function-using-computer-chip-implants-in-the-brain\/\">fall 2021 Pew Research Center survey<\/a>, we asked Americans about the prospect of computer chip brain implants that might one day allow people \u201cto far more quickly and accurately process information.\u201d Americans generally expressed cautious and negative views about the idea, but their opinions varied depending on how such chips might be used.<\/p>\n<p>More than half of U.S. adults (56%) said that widespread use of brain chips to enhance cognitive function would be a bad idea for society. Only 13% said it would be a good idea, and 31% weren\u2019t sure.
