Sunday church attendance<\/a>\u00a0is just 80 per cent of what it was in 2019, Telegraph analysis has revealed, despite the Church of England claiming that it has \u201cbounced back\u201d after the pandemic.\u200c<\/p>\n

The figures\u00a0reveal that church attendance\u00a0<\/a>has more than halved since 1987, prompting clergy to warn: \u201cThis is a doom spiral of the church\u2019s own choosing.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u200cIn 2023, The Telegraph published an investigation which revealed that\u00a0parishes are closing at a record rate<\/a>, prompting fears that the Church had been\u00a0\u201cdealt a death knell\u201d.<\/a><\/p>\n

\u200cThe investigation found that almost\u00a0300 parishes have disappeared\u00a0<\/a>in the past five years alone \u2013 the fastest rate since records began in 1960.<\/p>\n
