War broke out in August and in September 1914 Geoffrey Studdert Kennedy wrote these words in his parish magazine:<\/p>\n

\u201cI cannot say too strongly that I believe every able-bodied man ought to volunteer for service anywhere. Here ought to be no shirking of that duty.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
