{"id":129889,"date":"2024-06-12T07:29:00","date_gmt":"2024-06-12T11:29:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/kendallharmon.net\/?p=129889"},"modified":"2024-06-12T06:43:08","modified_gmt":"2024-06-12T10:43:08","slug":"science-alert-dementia-breakthrough-brain-scans-predict-disease-up-to-9-years-early","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kendallharmon.net\/?p=129889","title":{"rendered":"(Science Alert) Dementia Breakthrough: Brain Scans Predict Disease Up to 9 Years Early"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencealert.com\/this-new-clue-may-signal-alzheimers-before-you-have-symptoms\">Diagnosing dementia<\/a>&nbsp;early gives us more time to put precautions in place and to study exactly how the condition progresses \u2013 and a new method for predicting conditions such as&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencealert.com\/go\/IaO\">Alzheimer&#8217;s<\/a>&nbsp;disease is promising up to nine years of advance warning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The method, developed by a team from the Queen Mary University of London in the UK and Monash University in Australia, involves a neurobiological model that analyzes brain scans captured by&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Functional_magnetic_resonance_imaging\">functional magnetic resonance imaging<\/a>, or fMRI.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In tests, the model was more than 80 percent accurate at predicting the development of dementia.
