CRC leaders sign three Reformed confessions\u2014the Belgic Confession, the Heidelberg Catechism, and the Canons of Dort\u2014and in 2022, the denomination clarified in a footnote that the Heidelberg Catechism\u2019s teaching that \u201cGod condemns all unchastity\u201d includes homosexual sex, as well as adultery, premarital sex, extramarital sex, polyamory, and pornography.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At least 18 churches publicized their disagreement by&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.crcna.org\/sites\/default\/files\/Overture48.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">declaring themselves \u201cin protest\u201d<\/a>&nbsp;of that teaching. They argued the CRC should allow differences in biblical interpretation of&nbsp;<em>unchastity<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last week, however, the synod&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thebanner.org\/news\/2024\/06\/synod-2024-declared-disciplinary-measures-for-those-in-protest\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">decided<\/a>&nbsp;that churches who adopted the \u201cin protest\u201d status would also fall under the discipline process and be required to comply with the confessions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s okay to send a protest. The issue is when you say our whole church, our whole council, is going to take exception to the confessions,\u201d\u00a0<a class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=ZnoSGU3II2o\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">said<\/a>\u00a0Cedric Parsels, reporting from the synod for the\u00a0<a class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.abideproject.org\/about\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Abide Project<\/a>, a group that upholds the CRC\u2019s historic view on sexuality. \u201c\u2018We are going to put an asterisk next to our name of CRC.
