{"id":131015,"date":"2024-09-06T17:09:00","date_gmt":"2024-09-06T21:09:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/kendallharmon.net\/?p=131015"},"modified":"2024-09-06T18:07:12","modified_gmt":"2024-09-06T22:07:12","slug":"church-times-sydney-diocese-report-warns-of-impaired-communion-with-church-of-england","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kendallharmon.net\/?p=131015","title":{"rendered":"(Church Times) Sydney diocese report warns of \u2018impaired communion\u2019 with Church of England"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.churchtimes.co.uk\/topics\/anglican-church-of-australia\">Anglican Church of Australia<\/a>\u00a0(ACA) would \u201cautomatically\u201d cease to be in communion with the Church of England if the Appellate Tribunal determined that the C of E was \u201cinconsistent\u201d with the Australian Church\u2019s \u201cFundamental Declarations\u201d, a report to the Sydney synod by the diocese\u2019s doctrine commission suggests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Appellate Tribunal is the church\u2019s highest court, and the Archbishop of Sydney, the Most Revd Kanishka Raffel, is a tribunal member.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The report says that the Church of England could be ruled \u201cinconsistent\u201d if it \u201crejected the scriptures as \u2018the ultimate rule and standard of faith\u2019 or if they ceased to \u2018obey the commands of Christ and teach his doctrine\u2019\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The ACA, the report continues, \u201chas no legal power to declare whether it is in or out of communion with any other Church in the [Anglican] Communion, other than the Church of England.
