{"id":132454,"date":"2024-11-01T17:16:00","date_gmt":"2024-11-01T21:16:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/kendallharmon.net\/?p=132454"},"modified":"2024-11-01T18:58:59","modified_gmt":"2024-11-01T22:58:59","slug":"church-times-churchgoing-cancer-patient-runs-for-refugees","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kendallharmon.net\/?p=132454","title":{"rendered":"(Church Times) Churchgoing cancer patient runs for refugees"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>A Churchgoer and former employee of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.churchtimes.co.uk\/topics\/diocese-of-lichfield\">Lichfield diocese<\/a>\u00a0who has been diagnosed with Stage 4 incurable bowel cancer has run 60 miles, between chemotherapy treatments, to fund-raise for the charity Refugee Action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The runner, Pete Bate, 50, from Burntwood, near Lichfield, said this week that he had been feeling more stable since his cancer treatments were paused in May, and so he decided to take part in&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.churchtimes.co.uk\/topics\/refugeesunhcr\">Refugee<\/a>&nbsp;Action\u2019s Race for Refugees challenge in September. He has raised more than \u00a31200.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m off treatment at the moment, and wanted to do something positive, to show there is life beyond and outside of cancer,\u201d he said. \u201cI\u2019ve been a keen runner for years, but am gradually rebuilding my fitness due to the draining effects of chemo.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.churchtimes.co.uk\/articles\/2024\/1-november\/news\/uk\/churchgoing-cancer-patient-runs-for-refugees\">Read it all<\/a>.<\/p><blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Pete set himself the challenge of running 50 miles for Race for Refugees, during a pause in treatment for Stage 4 bowel cancer.
