{"id":134951,"date":"2025-02-14T17:10:00","date_gmt":"2025-02-14T22:10:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/kendallharmon.net\/?p=134951"},"modified":"2025-02-14T18:13:37","modified_gmt":"2025-02-14T23:13:37","slug":"church-times-should-anglicans-envisage-polycentric-future","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kendallharmon.net\/?p=134951","title":{"rendered":"(Church Times) Should Anglicans envisage \u2018polycentric\u2019 future?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Church of England will be \u201ca little less central to the common life [of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.churchtimes.co.uk\/topics\/anglican-communion\">Anglican Communion<\/a>]\u201d if proposed changes in its leadership and structure are approved, Bishop Graham Tomlin, who chairs the Inter-Anglican Standing Committee on Unity, Faith and Order (IASCUFO), acknowledged at a webinar on the Lambeth Call on Christian Unity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Discussions focused on the Nairobi-Cairo Proposals from IASCUFO, which would mean that the 42 Churches of the Communion would no longer be described as \u201cin communion with the See of Canterbury\u201d, but as having \u201ca historic connection\u201d with it (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.churchtimes.co.uk\/articles\/2024\/6-december\/news\/world\/structural-changes-to-anglican-communion-proposed\">News, 6 December 2024<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Further reinforcing the autonomy and equality of each, the presidency of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.churchtimes.co.uk\/topics\/anglican-consultative-council\">Anglican Consultative Council<\/a>\u00a0(ACC), traditionally held by Archbishops of Canterbury, would rotate around the Communion, a move made \u201cin service of a de-centred, polycentric understanding of the mission of the Church. . .
