A review of\u00a0Winchester Cathedral<\/a>\u00a0identified \u201csignificant failings in leadership and management\u201d, the\u00a0Bishop of Winchester<\/a>, the Rt Revd Philip Mounstephen, said on Monday, when a\u00a0summary of the review<\/a>\u00a0was published.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Dean, the Very Revd Catherine Ogle, has announced that she will immediately hand over leadership of the cathedral, before her previously announced retirement on 1 May. The Vice-Dean, Canon Roly Riem, is to take charge of implementing the review\u2019s recommendations, many of which, Dean Ogle said, were \u201calready under way\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a statement, the Dean apologised on behalf of the Chapter to \u201ceveryone who has been hurt by the events of the last few months\u201d. The Chapter, she said, had to accept \u201ccollective responsibility\u201d, but, as its leader, she was stepping back.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bishop Mounstephen said that \u201cno one person is entirely to blame.\u201d He also sought to emphasise that Winchester was not a \u201cfailing cathedral\u201d, and that the reviewers had found \u201cmuch to celebrate\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
