{"id":136301,"date":"2025-04-09T17:22:00","date_gmt":"2025-04-09T21:22:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/kendallharmon.net\/?p=136301"},"modified":"2025-04-10T05:52:46","modified_gmt":"2025-04-10T09:52:46","slug":"germans-pay-tribute-to-bonhoeffer-80-years-after-his-execution","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kendallharmon.net\/?p=136301","title":{"rendered":"(Church Times) Germans pay tribute to Bonhoeffer, 80 years after his execution"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>German Protestants have commemorated one of their foremost\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.churchtimes.co.uk\/topics\/theology\">theologians<\/a>\u00a0on the 80th anniversary of his execution during the final days of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.churchtimes.co.uk\/topics\/second-world-war\">Second World War<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cDietrich Bonhoeffer lived to be only 39 \u2014 yet hardly any 20th-century Protestant had such a profound impact on Church and society,\u201d the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.churchtimes.co.uk\/topics\/evangelicals\">Evangelical<\/a>&nbsp;Church in Germany (EKD) said on its website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHis passionate protest against the National Socialists, his active role in the resistance against Hitler, his books and his death have resonated far beyond Germany\u2019s borders.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The statement was published as young Christians gathered last weekend at the Flossenb\u00fcrg Concentration Camp memorial, in the Fichtel Mountains of Bavaria, near the Czech border, to debate the legacy of Bonhoeffer.
