{"id":138451,"date":"2025-07-09T17:20:00","date_gmt":"2025-07-09T21:20:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/kendallharmon.net\/?p=138451"},"modified":"2025-07-09T18:05:15","modified_gmt":"2025-07-09T22:05:15","slug":"safeguarding-at-blackburn-cathedral-inadequate-ineqe-audit-reports","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kendallharmon.net\/?p=138451","title":{"rendered":"(Church Times) Safeguarding at Blackburn Cathedral \u2018inadequate\u2019 INEQE audit reports"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Safeguarding arrangements at\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.churchtimes.co.uk\/topics\/blackburn-cathedral\">Blackburn Cathedral<\/a>\u00a0are \u201cinadequate\u201d and require immediate action, an independent audit has concluded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The audit was carried out by the INEQE Safeguarding Group as part of a rolling programme across the Church which is due to be completed by 2028.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It began in October 2024, two months after the BBC reported that a member of the cathedral Chapter, Canon Andrew Hindley, had been forced to retire by the then Bishop of Blackburn in 2021, and that a six-figure sum had been paid to him in a legal settlement (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.churchtimes.co.uk\/articles\/2024\/16-august\/news\/uk\/cdm-system-failed-us-says-blackburn-diocese-after-paying-off-canon-who-posed-risk\">News, 16 August 2024<\/a>). Canon Hindley has insisted that he has never posed a danger to young people or been a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.churchtimes.co.uk\/topics\/safeguarding\">safeguarding<\/a>&nbsp;risk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The audit report was published last week.
