{"id":138726,"date":"2025-07-18T17:12:00","date_gmt":"2025-07-18T21:12:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/kendallharmon.net\/?p=138726"},"modified":"2025-07-18T18:14:43","modified_gmt":"2025-07-18T22:14:43","slug":"church-times-spiritual-awakening-for-generation-z-a-youth-for-christ-report-says","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kendallharmon.net\/?p=138726","title":{"rendered":"(Church Times) \u2018Spiritual awakening\u2019 for Generation Z-A, Youth For Christ report says"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>\u00a0A &#8220;spiritual awakening\u201d is happening in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.churchtimes.co.uk\/topics\/youth-workministry\">Generation Z-A<\/a>\u00a0(<a href=\"https:\/\/www.churchtimes.co.uk\/topics\/young-people\">11-18s<\/a>), which \u201cdefies every prediction about declining religious engagement\u201d, Youth for Christ (YFC) says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The charity was launching a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.churchtimes.co.uk\/topics\/statisticsresearchreports\">report<\/a>&nbsp;last week,&nbsp;<em>Z-A Growing Spirituality<\/em>, drawing on 1009 completed anonymous online surveys from across Britain which a research company undertook for it in May. Of the respondents, 52 per cent identified as Christian. One third (35 per cent) considered themselves to be \u201ca follower of Jesus\u201d \u2014 up from 23 per cent in a YFC survey carried out in 2020 \u2014 and eight per cent said that they&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.churchtimes.co.uk\/topics\/church-attendance\">attended<\/a>&nbsp;church as part of their week \u2014 up from four per cent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The charity had previously surveyed the same age brackets in 2016 and 2020. In 2016, participants were asked: \u201cWhich of the following, if any, do you believe in?\u201d with the options \u201cGod\u201d (selected by 32 per cent), \u201cghosts and spirits\u201d (22 per cent), and \u201cDon\u2019t believe in either\u201d (47 per cent). In 2025, asked whether they believed in God, 48 per cent answered \u201cyes\u201d, with \u201cno\u201d at 28 per cent and \u201cunsure\u201d at 24 per cent. In total, 19 per cent said that they had had a spiritual experience \u2014 up from 11 per cent in 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A total of 43 per cent said that they prayed, up from 31 per cent in 2020 (and from 41 per cent in 2016). Of the 43 per cent, 61 per cent said that this was daily.
