{"id":139054,"date":"2025-08-01T17:22:00","date_gmt":"2025-08-01T21:22:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/kendallharmon.net\/?p=139054"},"modified":"2025-08-01T18:14:24","modified_gmt":"2025-08-01T22:14:24","slug":"liverpool-diocese-awarded-6-2m-in-national-church-funding","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kendallharmon.net\/?p=139054","title":{"rendered":"(Church Times) Liverpool diocese awarded \u00a36.2m in national Church funding"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Amid debate among bishops about the pros and cons of the \u201cstrings\u201d attached to financial grants from the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.churchtimes.co.uk\/topics\/archbishops-council\">Archbishops\u2019 Council<\/a>, national funding of \u00a36.2 million has been awarded to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.churchtimes.co.uk\/topics\/diocese-of-liverpool\">Liverpool<\/a>\u00a0diocese, the poorest in the Church of England.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The award is part of a larger sum agreed in principle \u2014 about \u00a330 million over the next seven years \u2014 with a goal of ensuring that every parish is \u201cmissionally and financially sustainable\u201d, the diocese says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The grant will enable it to maintain a reduced level of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.churchtimes.co.uk\/topics\/financemoney\">parish share<\/a>, avoid a reduction in clergy numbers for financial reasons, and invest in a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.churchtimes.co.uk\/topics\/children-s-ministrysunday-school\">youth and children\u2019s hub<\/a>&nbsp;in most deaneries. Other aims include the creation of deanery resource hubs, with employed administrative posts, \u201clightening the load for parish offices and volunteers\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last year\u2019s national Diocesan Finances Review warned of dioceses\u2019 \u201cincreased dependency on the NCIs\u201d. In the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.churchtimes.co.uk\/topics\/general-synod\">General Synod<\/a>\u00a0last month, some bishops criticised this balance of power, referring to the \u201cexhausting\u201d demands of the grant system (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.churchtimes.co.uk\/articles\/2025\/18-july\/news\/uk\/synod-votes-against-radical-measures-to-redistribute-church-commissioners-wealth\">News, 18 July<\/a>).
