{"id":140866,"date":"2025-10-28T17:33:00","date_gmt":"2025-10-28T21:33:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/kendallharmon.net\/?p=140866"},"modified":"2025-10-28T18:46:07","modified_gmt":"2025-10-28T22:46:07","slug":"church-times-church-of-england-statistics-for-mission-contradict-claims-of-quiet-revival","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kendallharmon.net\/?p=140866","title":{"rendered":"(Church Times) Church of England\u00a0Statistics for Mission\u00a0contradict claims of Quiet Revival"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Despite polling heralded as revealing a \u201cquiet revival\u201d, the Church of England is \u2014 by almost every measure and in almost every diocese \u2014 smaller than it was in 2018, this year\u2019s&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.churchtimes.co.uk\/topics\/statisticsresearchreports\">Statistics for Mission<\/a>&nbsp;show.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The data, published on Tuesday, record that in 2024&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.churchtimes.co.uk\/topics\/church-attendance\">attendance<\/a>&nbsp;rose for the fourth year, but that recovery since the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.churchtimes.co.uk\/topics\/post-pandemic\">Covid-19 pandemic<\/a>&nbsp;has slowed. Increases in attendance since 2023 were smaller than in previous years. In 2019, a \u201cmiddle-sized\u201d church had an all-age average weekly attendance (AWA) of 34.5; in 2024, the equivalent figure was 26. The median church has just one child in attendance, compared with three in 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Adult AWA (based on in-person attendance in October) was 18 per cent lower than in 2019, and 1.8 per cent higher than in 2023.
