{"id":141323,"date":"2025-11-20T17:11:00","date_gmt":"2025-11-20T22:11:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kendallharmon.net\/?p=141323"},"modified":"2025-11-20T18:15:23","modified_gmt":"2025-11-20T23:15:23","slug":"church-times-former-anglican-clergy-make-up-a-third-of-new-roman-catholic-priests-in-britain-report-reveals","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kendallharmon.net\/?p=141323","title":{"rendered":"(Church Times) Former Anglican clergy make up a third of new Roman Catholic priests in Britain, report reveals"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Between 1992 and 2024, former Anglican clergy made up more than one third of those beginning priestly ministry in the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.churchtimes.co.uk\/topics\/roman-catholic-church\">Roman Catholic<\/a>\u00a0Church in England and Wales, a new report reveals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The report,&nbsp;<em>Convert Clergy in the Catholic Church in Britain,&nbsp;<\/em>summarises the findings of a research project commissioned in 2019 by the St Barnabas Society, a charity that continues the work of the Converts Aid Society, established in 1896.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The report was produced in partnership with researchers at the Benedict XVI Centre for Religion, Ethics and Society, whose UK base is at St Mary\u2019s University, Twickenham. Published on Thursday, it recognises the \u201csubstantial ongoing contribution to Catholic life made by convert clergy\/religious in this country\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The period studied begins in 1992, when the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.churchtimes.co.uk\/topics\/general-synod\">General Synod<\/a>\u00a0voted in favour of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.churchtimes.co.uk\/topics\/ordination-of-women\">ordination of women<\/a>\u00a0to the priesthood.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.churchtimes.co.uk\/articles\/2025\/21-november\/news\/uk\/former-anglican-clergy-make-up-third-of-new-roman-catholic-priests-in-britain-report-reveals\">Read it all<\/a>.<\/p><blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">New report launched today, on Anglican-to-Catholic clergy conversions in Britain.
