{"id":141682,"date":"2025-12-05T18:47:38","date_gmt":"2025-12-05T23:47:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kendallharmon.net\/?p=141682"},"modified":"2025-12-05T18:50:08","modified_gmt":"2025-12-05T23:50:08","slug":"church-times-clergy-discipline-commission-reprimands-bishops","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kendallharmon.net\/?p=141682","title":{"rendered":"(Church Times) Clergy Discipline Commission reprimands bishops"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.churchtimes.co.uk\/topics\/clergy-discipline-measure-cdm\">Clergy Discipline Commission<\/a>\u00a0has expressed disappointment at bishops\u2019 infrequent use of conciliation in disciplinary cases, in an annual report that also warns that their \u201clack of attention\u201d has resulted in a \u201cgreatly diminished\u201d pool of tribunal members, the Provincial Panel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Commission\u2019s annual report for 2024, included among the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.churchtimes.co.uk\/topics\/general-synod\">General Synod<\/a>&nbsp;papers for next February, says that bishops infrequently used their power to refer complaints for alternative dispute resolution through conciliation, although there are \u201ca great many people throughout the church with expertise in conciliation and it was a shame that this formal mechanism was being underutilised\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2024, there were three complaints referred to conciliation \u2014 four per cent of the total.
