Then Amazi\u2032ah the priest of Bethel sent to Jerobo\u2032am king of Israel, saying, \u201cAmos has conspired against you in the midst of the house of Israel; the land is not able to bear all his words. For thus Amos has said,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u2018Jerobo\u2032am shall die by the sword,
and Israel must go into exile
away from his land.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And Amazi\u2032ah said to Amos, \u201cO seer, go, flee away to the land of Judah, and eat bread there, and prophesy there; but never again prophesy at Bethel, for it is the king\u2019s sanctuary, and it is a temple of the kingdom.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Then Amos answered Amazi\u2032ah, \u201cI am no prophet, nor a prophet\u2019s son; but I am a herdsman, and a dresser of sycamore trees, and the Lord took me from following the flock, and the Lord said to me, \u2018Go, prophesy to my people Israel.\u2019 \u201cNow therefore hear the word of the Lord.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
You say, \u2018Do not prophesy against Israel,
and do not preach against the house of Isaac.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Therefore thus says the Lord:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u2018Your wife shall be a harlot in the city,
and your sons and your daughters shall fall by the sword,
and your land shall be parceled out by line;
you yourself shall die in an unclean land,
and Israel shall surely go into exile away from its land.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
