{"id":142636,"date":"2026-01-15T12:28:00","date_gmt":"2026-01-15T17:28:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kendallharmon.net\/?p=142636"},"modified":"2026-01-15T18:31:28","modified_gmt":"2026-01-15T23:31:28","slug":"sa-just-one-gene-may-be-responsible-for-over-90-of-alzheimers-cases","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kendallharmon.net\/?p=142636","title":{"rendered":"(SA) Just One Gene May Be Responsible For Over 90% of Alzheimer&#8217;s Cases"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>More than 9 out of 10&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencealert.com\/alzheimer-s-disease\">Alzheimer&#8217;s cases<\/a>&nbsp;could be driven by specific variations in a single gene and the protein it produces, a new study reveals, suggesting that treatments targeting this well-known gene could prevent the disease from developing in the majority of instances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The gene in question,&nbsp;<em>APOE<\/em>, has&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencealert.com\/this-rare-gene-variant-seems-to-protect-you-from-alzheimers-disease\">long been associated<\/a>&nbsp;with&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencealert.com\/go\/IaO\">Alzheimer&#8217;s<\/a>&nbsp;risk. What&#8217;s new here is the way the different variations of the gene have been analysed and mapped against the chances of developing Alzheimer&#8217;s.
