Radical \u00a0reform of the National Church Institutions (NCIs), including the abolition of the\u00a0Archbishops\u2019 Council<\/a>, has been halted after the parliamentary Ecclesiastical Committee deemed the legislation \u201cnot expedient\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Writing to General Synod <\/a>members last week, the Secretary General of the Archbishops\u2019 Council, William Nye, relayed that the Legislative Committee of the Synod (the body responsible for submitting Measures to Parliament for approval) had decided not to seek to reintroduce the National Church Governance Measure at the July group of sessions in York.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIn light of the Ecclesiastical Committee\u2019s expressed position, and the absence of clarity that amendments would resolve its concerns, the Committee concluded that reintroduction at this time would not be a simple or straightforward matter,\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
