Not all were theologians or Christians, and the lecture presented a Paul who was much more positive about the Law than we see in many traditional Protestant interpretations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But one member of the audience, a Jewish philosopher, was still concerned. He shared that when he hears what Paul wrote about the Law, he can\u2019t relate. Their forms of piety are&nbsp;<em>alien<\/em>&nbsp;to each other because for Judaism, the Law is life-giving, whereas for Paul, the Law brings death. How could Paul, a Jew and a Pharisee, think such a thing about the law of God?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This question has been with the church since its founding generation. Didn\u2019t Jesus love and obey the Law? Shouldn\u2019t his followers do the same? Why have so many Christians since the first century seemed to ignore, resent, reject, or even despise the Law? What&nbsp;<em>should&nbsp;<\/em>believers think about the books of Moses, sometimes called the Pentateuch (Greek for \u201cfive scrolls\u201d) or the Torah (Hebrew for \u201claw\u201d or \u201cinstruction\u201d)?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.christianitytoday.com\/2026\/05\/what-do-christians-do-with-the-law-of-moses-old-testament\/\">Read it all<\/a>.<\/p><blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Jesus said he \u201cfulfilled\u201d the law but didn\u2019t \u201cabolish\u201d it, while Hebrews says the old covenant is \u201cobsolete.\u201d <br><br>The church has long debated what this means.<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/digjRDJjjk\">https:\/\/t.co\/digjRDJjjk<\/a><\/p>&mdash; Christianity Today (@CTmagazine) <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/CTmagazine\/status\/2059732375643263455?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 27, 2026<\/a><\/blockquote> <script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.x.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Recently I had the privilege of giving a lecture on Paul and the law of Moses to a mixed group of religion scholars.
