{"id":146405,"date":"2026-07-09T17:35:00","date_gmt":"2026-07-09T21:35:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kendallharmon.net\/?p=146405"},"modified":"2026-07-09T18:38:18","modified_gmt":"2026-07-09T22:38:18","slug":"church-times-church-of-england-welcomes-consultation-on-putting-re-in-national-curriculum","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kendallharmon.net\/?p=146405","title":{"rendered":"(Church Times) Church of England welcomes consultation on putting RE in National Curriculum"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Church of England this week welcomed an announcement of a government consultation in the autumn on the potential for including&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.churchtimes.co.uk\/topics\/religious-studieseducation\">religious education<\/a>&nbsp;(RE) in the National Curriculum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Earlier this year, the National Society praised the Government\u2019s announcement of a \u00a34-billion investment in Special Educational Needs and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.churchtimes.co.uk\/topics\/disability\">Disabilities<\/a>&nbsp;(SEND) provision, which, it said, chimed with its \u201ccore mission\u201d (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.churchtimes.co.uk\/articles\/2026\/27-february\/news\/uk\/church-of-england-welcomes-government-plan-to-invest-in-special-needs-provision-in-schools\">News, 23 February<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Church says that it will respond to the consultation on RE in the autumn, and that the National Society, which is the education office for the C of E and the Church in Wales, will work closely with its diocesan partners in the mean time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>RE currently sits outside the national curriculum, and decisions about what is taught are taken locally.
