{"id":147725,"date":"2026-10-02T14:20:00","date_gmt":"2026-10-02T18:20:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kendallharmon.net\/?p=147725"},"modified":"2026-10-02T18:23:15","modified_gmt":"2026-10-02T22:23:15","slug":"nyt-a-hacking-competition-shows-the-power-of-chinas-approach-to-a-i","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kendallharmon.net\/?p=147725","title":{"rendered":"(NYT) A Hacking Competition Shows the Power of China\u2019s Approach to A.I."},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This summer, a cybersecurity company called Tenzai entered a three-month-long hacking contest, racing to find vulnerabilities in computer networks operated by governments agencies, banks, hotels, airlines and other businesses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The contest, called HackerOne, has become a real-world proving ground for the latest artificial intelligence technologies, including Claude from Anthropic and GPT from OpenAI. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2026\/04\/06\/technology\/ai-cybersecurity-hackers.html\">Over the past year<\/a>, these technologies have improved to the point where they can pinpoint holes in computer networks with stunning speed, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2026\/05\/12\/technology\/anthropic-claude-mythos.html\">fundamentally changing the nature of cybersecurity<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But in winning this extended contest \u2014 a result announced on Thursday morning \u2014 Tenzai did not use technology from Anthropic or OpenAI.
